Meet Your Guide
Hi, I’m Tabetha Landt, a teaching artist who has been guiding groups through The Artist’s Way since 2012. I came to art after losing my sister to a car crash in 1995. I discovered that my creativity was the key to healing and transformation. I know the power of art to unlock potential, and I’m excited to support you on this journey to reconnect with your creative dreams!
Don't think you're creative? Neither did I!
In my younger years (up to age 30), I was fond of saying “I don’t have a creative bone in my body.”
It’s funny to write that now, but I truly believed it, and it took losing my sister to reconnect with my sense of creativity; I inherited her paints, and used them to paint through the grief. Pain led me to my creativity. A strong creative practice and The Artist’s Way have kept me creating.
What You Will Get From This Course
Support - Going through the book with a group offers support and accountability that you can't get going it alone.
Instructor-lead weekly Zoom calls to discuss the chapter and work on an art journal project.
New thought - Group discussions lead to fresh perspectives and ideas that you probably would not have gotten to on your own.
Materials - Downloadable/printable PDF worksheets and other goodies will help keep you organized and on track.
Understanding - Talking about your trials makes you realize that you're not alone.
To paraphrase Picasso: We’re all born artists, and the trick is to remain artists when we grow up.
In a perfect world, we would all get the support and nurturing we need, and would grow up to realize our creative and artistic potential.
But…we don’t live in that word. The good news is that you are intrinsically creative. It is in your DNA. And all of your unique experiences and interests make up your secret sauce as a creative person!
You just need to be willing to open your mind and explore a bit to get back to the creative person you were as a kid.
Open to All Creative Disciplines
We’ll use visual art in our zoom calls as a tool to bust through creative blocks, but this class is open to any and all creative disciplines.
If you don’t have a creative discipline, but want to tap into your creativity, this class is for you, too!
(You just have to be open to playing with some art supplies!)
3 payments of $125
A Note on Commitment
This course requires time and energy—about 5-6 hours per week in addition to the Saturday classes. But if you’re ready to dive in, I promise the journey will be rewarding. You are a grown up and can put as much or as little into this course as you want. You will see small results with little effort, and big results if you dedicate yourself.
Refund Policy
Facing creative blocks is brave, and can be challenging, so we have a no-refund policy to encourage you to see the journey through.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I miss classes?
Yes, of course! Life is busy, and things come up. If you have to miss a class or two, I just ask that you read the chapter and do the homework. (And you can watch the class replay video.)
Is this an art class?
Yes and no. We do art in the class, but it's not an instructional class. You will receive guidance and prompts for your art journal exercises, but I will not teach you how to paint. This is not about painting, it's about creativity! (You can’t get this wrong.)
I've never painted, can I still join?
Sure! You don't need any experience painting, but you do need to be open-minded about exploring your art supplies.
Email Tabetha if you're nervous about the painting part. Or sign up for a private lesson to get a jump-start.
Supplies
Below is a list of supplies, with links to most of the products.
The brands and brush sizes are not important: if you already have acrylic paint and brushes, feel free to use those! If you have a different version of The Artist’s Way than the one that I’ve linked to (i.e. a different printing* of the book), you can use that one.
Mandatory
Writing journal for daily morning pages. I suggest a plain old spiral notebook.
Pick and Choose
This is a course about creativity, and often I will suggest you use supplies that are calling to you. These are some of the additional art supplies that I tend to use in this course, you are free to use these or whatever else you feel like using.
Collage materials:
paper scraps from magazines, free publications and junk mail (to name a few)
Something to glue the paper down: I use glue sticks, matte medium, or gel medium (you can even use Elmer’s glue.)
Scissors
Other supplies you might want to use if you’ve got them: colored pencils, pens, markers, watercolors.
* Please make sure the the book you have/get is “The Artist’s Way A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity” or “The Artist’s Way A Course in Discovering and Recovering your Creative Self”. The most common covers are pictured towards the top of this page.
(There are many other books and products with The Artist’s Way name on it; such as “The Artist’s Way Morning Pages Journal” or “The Artist’s Way Workbook”, and you don’t need any of those.)
Also, I strongly recommend the physical book, not the audio book. There are two versions of the audiobook. If you choose to get the audiobook, make sure you get the longer version. The other one skips large chunks of the book. 🤷🏻♀️
I encourage you to get out and support your local small business art supply store and bookseller if you can find them! If you don’t have any near you, or prefer to order your supplies online, I am an Amazon affiliate, and may receive a small commission from the links above. Thank you for supporting this small business artist!
